Warranty

LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY & PRODUCT CARE POLICY

1. Limited One-Year Warranty

Simplidoor warrants its products against manufacturing defects for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment, subject to the terms, conditions, and requirements outlined in this policy.

It is the responsibility of the customer, contractor, installer, and finisher to follow all inspection, handling, storage, finishing, installation, and environmental protection requirements specified below to maintain warranty eligibility.

This warranty applies to manufacturing defects only and does not cover natural characteristics of wood, normal movement caused by environmental conditions, improper handling, improper installation, inadequate finishing, or damage resulting from failure to follow the requirements of this policy.

2. Mandatory Pre-Installation Inspection

Before cutting, hanging, finishing, modifying, or installing any door, the product must be thoroughly inspected.

The customer, contractor, installer, and finisher are responsible for verifying the following:

  1. Warping and visible defects: Inspect the door for warping, irregularities, and other visible defects.
  2. Glass inspection: Check all glass panes for defects, damage, imperfections, or other issues.
  3. Size and specifications: Verify that the door's dimensions and specifications meet the approved order and project requirements.
  4. Manufacturing defects: Examine the product for any defects that may have occurred during manufacturing.
  5. Shipping and storage damage: Inspect the door for damage that may have occurred during shipping, handling, or storage.

IMPORTANT: If any defects, damage, or other concerns are identified, do not cut, modify, finish, hang, or install the door. Contact Simplidoor immediately for further instructions.

Once a door has been cut, modified, finished, or installed, it may be difficult to determine whether an issue existed before work began. Proceeding with work on a door with visible or suspected defects may affect warranty eligibility.

3. Wood Door Sealing Requirements

After installation, all wood doors must be properly sealed on all six sides to help protect against moisture penetration and environmental damage.

The six sides and applicable areas include:

  • Front face
  • Back face
  • Top rail
  • Bottom rail
  • Areas behind hinges
  • Areas beneath the door shoe, where applicable

All exposed surfaces, edges, and applicable concealed areas must be properly sealed and finished. Particular care must be taken with the top and bottom edges, hinge locations, and areas that may be overlooked during finishing.

Failure to adequately seal a wood door may result in moisture absorption, shrinking, swelling, warping, cracking, or other damage that may affect warranty eligibility.

4. Finishing Requirements

All interior and exterior doors must receive adequate protective finish coats of polyurethane or a compatible finish suitable for the door material and intended application.

Exterior doors

  • A minimum of three (3) coats of exterior-grade topcoat containing a UV inhibitor must be applied.
  • The finish must be appropriate for exterior exposure and provide adequate protection against sunlight and environmental conditions.

Interior doors

  • A minimum of two (2) protective finish coats must be applied.

Before finishing, the following preparation steps must be completed:

  1. Remove handling marks, excess glazing, glue marks, and other surface residue or imperfections.
  2. Sand affected areas using 150-grit sandpaper or finer, as appropriate.
  3. Thoroughly remove all sanding dust before applying the finish.
  4. Ensure all surfaces and edges are properly prepared and sealed.

For best performance and finish quality, doors should be finished while lying flat.

All finishing products must be applied in accordance with the finish manufacturer's instructions. Adequate drying and curing time must be allowed before installation or exposure to environmental conditions.

5. Environmental Protection and Overhang Requirements

Wood doors are natural products that respond to changes in temperature, humidity, moisture, and exposure to sunlight. Proper protection is essential to help preserve the finish and extend the service life of the door.

As a best practice, all wood doors should be adequately protected from:

  • Direct and prolonged sunlight
  • Rain and excessive moisture
  • Wind and other environmental exposure
  • Abnormal or excessive heat
  • Sudden changes in temperature or humidity

An overhang should be located directly above the entry door to help protect it from the elements.

For doors facing north, east, or west, the minimum standard overhang requirement for a 6-foot, 8-inch (6′8″) door is 4 feet (4′0″).

Continuous exposure to direct sunlight and natural elements can gradually deteriorate the door's finish and accelerate the need for additional sealing or refinishing. Adequate overhang and ongoing maintenance help prolong the life of the door and its finish.

6. Installation During Construction

As a best practice, Simplidoor recommends that finished doors not be installed while construction activities are ongoing.

Construction environments may expose doors to excessive moisture, dust, debris, impact, chemicals, temperature fluctuations, and other conditions that can damage the product or its finish.

A temporary or designated construction door should be used until construction is complete and the building environment is suitable for the installation of the finished door.

Damage resulting from construction activities, improper storage, or exposure to unsuitable site conditions may not be covered under this warranty.

7. Storm Door Restriction for Entry Doors

Simplidoor's warranty is void for any entry door installed behind a storm door.

Storm doors can trap heat and moisture between the storm door and the entry door, creating excessive temperatures and moisture buildup. These conditions can cause shrinking, cracking, splitting, warping, finish deterioration, and other damage to the entry door.

Simplidoor does not recommend installing its entry doors behind storm doors due to the potential for heat buildup and trapped moisture.

8. Natural Characteristics of Wood Products Not Considered Manufacturing Defects

Wood is a natural material that responds to environmental conditions and may display variations in appearance and movement over time. The following characteristics are considered normal and are not manufacturing defects under this policy:

8.1 Floating Panel Movement

Movement and/or shrinking of floating panels due to changes in weather conditions may expose unfinished edges of the panel. This is a normal characteristic of floating-panel construction.

8.2 Natural Wood Variations

Natural wood characteristics and variations, including knots, wormholes, texture, grain direction, and color variations, are not considered manufacturing defects.

8.3 Expansion and Contraction

Expansion and contraction of the door due to environmental conditions, including changes in moisture, temperature, and humidity, are natural characteristics of wood products.

8.4 Bamboo Doors

Bamboo doors are not intended for exterior applications. When used for interior applications, bamboo doors may develop thin cracks over time due to changes in temperature and humidity. Such cracking resulting from normal environmental changes is not considered a manufacturing defect.

8.5 Decorative Metal Accents

Discoloration, oxidation, or rusting of decorative metal accents, including grills, clavos, and similar decorative hardware or components, is not considered a manufacturing defect when resulting from normal exposure or environmental conditions.

8.6 Stain Color Fading

Fading or changes in the color of stained doors resulting from exposure to light, sunlight, or weather conditions are not considered manufacturing defects.

8.7 Minor Cracks

Cracks measuring less than 1/16 inch in width and less than 2 inches in length are considered normal wood characteristics and are not considered manufacturing defects under this policy.

8.8 Knotty Alder Surface Checks

Surface checks in Knotty Alder measuring less than 1/8 inch in width and/or less than 5 inches in length are not considered manufacturing defects under this policy.

8.9 Stile and Rail Separation

Separation between stiles and rails measuring up to 1/8 inch is considered an acceptable wood-product characteristic and is not considered a manufacturing defect under this policy.

These natural characteristics may vary depending on the wood species, construction method, environmental conditions, and intended application of the product.

9. Replacement Products and Associated Costs

If Simplidoor determines that a product is defective and approves a warranty replacement, Simplidoor's responsibility is limited to the approved replacement product, subject to the terms of this policy.

Simplidoor does not assume responsibility for the cost of refinishing, rehanging, installation, removal, labor, or replacement of any other product or component that Simplidoor did not install, pre-hang, or refinish.

Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, costs associated with removing the original product, preparing the opening, installing or rehanging the replacement, refinishing, repainting, staining, or completing other related work are the responsibility of the customer.

Approval of a replacement does not constitute acceptance of responsibility for any additional labor, materials, property damage, or consequential expenses.

10. Warranty Claim Procedure

Any suspected manufacturing defect must be reported to Simplidoor as soon as reasonably possible after discovery and within the applicable one-year warranty period.

When submitting a warranty inquiry, the customer should provide:

  • Original order or invoice information
  • Date of shipment, if available
  • A description of the suspected defect
  • Clear photographs showing the issue and the overall door
  • Relevant information regarding storage, finishing, installation, and environmental exposure

Simplidoor may request additional information or an inspection to determine whether the reported issue qualifies as a manufacturing defect under this policy.

Customers must not proceed with cutting, modifying, finishing, repairing, or installing a product with a suspected defect before contacting Simplidoor and receiving further instructions.

11. General Warranty Conditions

Warranty coverage is subject to compliance with all applicable requirements outlined in this policy.

Issues resulting from improper handling, storage, installation, finishing, inadequate sealing, construction exposure, excessive environmental exposure, or other failure to follow the stated requirements may not qualify for warranty coverage.

Natural wood characteristics and the specific conditions identified in Section 8 are not considered manufacturing defects.

This policy applies to manufacturing defects reported within one (1) year from the date of shipment. Any approved warranty remedy will be determined by Simplidoor in accordance with the applicable warranty terms.
